UW-Madison Quarknet Report

We worked with Dr. Rachael Lancor, PhD, Science Teacher & Research Program Coordinator at the Madison Country Day School, 5606 River Road, Waunakee, WI 53597 and Rob Young, Physics Teacher, Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart, 2219 Monroe St., Madison WI 53711.

Rob and Rachel developed activities for high school students that used CosmicWatch cosmic ray detectors provided by WIPAC. Rachel, Rob and I met remotely on 5/24/2022 to start the project, and then as needed throughout the summer to answer questions and get updates.

On July 29, 2022, Rob and Rachel spent a day at WIPAC with students learning about IceCube science and carrying out an analysis of IceCube Cosmic Ray Data.

The activities Rob and Rachel developed will be utilized in their classrooms and also for the 10-week, one two meeting per week IceCube Afterschool program for area high school students.
