1:00-4:30

Afternoon lab work: Constructing a student circuit board (Kevin Martz's design)

(link to parts list and schematic diagram, and a second copy of the parts list that includes web links for each)

-Possble mods to prototype:

1) Add Fahnestock clips for attaching needle-type multimeter probe leads, or for hot-swapping resistors

2) Replace C cell battery holder with D cell

Tuesday PM Session

Click here to see the list of lab ideas that we developed and then tried out.

(Also, in case you missed it, here is a link to the parts list and schematic diagram, and a second copy of the parts list that includes web links for each)

Wednesday 25 July & Thursday 26 July: QuarkNet LIGO Workshop

(Facilitator: Marla Glover)

Link to Workshop page here (or just find it on the JHU group page)

9:00-10:00  Dr. Emanuele Berti: "Gravitational Wave Astronomy"

Googe Drive links to his Wednesday talk and Thursday talk slides

Potential Resource: 2017 talk from Dr. Marc Kamionkowski - link to slides in PPT

(Note 1: several movie files are embedded in the PPT, so click on the slide to play each one.

Note 2: for now, I had to post this on Google Drive because the file is too large to upload to quarknet.org. When Google Drive gives you an error message, just click the "download" button to save it to your hard drive.)

(youtube videos: laser interferometer basics; publicity video from original discovery; second discovery including "chirp" sound of the merger!)
