Meeting Indico page: https://indico.cern.ch/event/465380/
Items discussed:
Activities used to meet Topic 7.3
- Quark Puzzle (QN)
- Z Mass Calc (QN)
- Particle combinations puzzle
Ideas/needs for activities
- Feyman diagrams
- Give rules and look for errors in "flawed" diagrams
- Animation - show particle interaction to go with a correct diagram
- other ideas...thinking...
- Range of bosons and relationship to mass for weak force vs, say, EM force (what about strong force?)
- Things students can do offline - not depending on getting to a computer
Group 4 Project
- Masterclass - prep plus MC day - as a complete G4P
- Lock-in...all students work together on a project for 2x6hr days in one room (in school field trip)
- Combine?
Actions
- think more about what is needed and ideas - then send out e-mails to group
- convene again when we have more to discuss
Addendum: Comments (one more topic)
It would be useful for the "IB group" to add comments to the QuarkNet website in two places:
- This page and subsequent notes documents. You can always e-mail the group but if you have comments on our meetings notes or ideas generated as a result of the meeting, you can make a comment at the bottom of the notes doc. If we do this we'll have all of our comments and ideas in one handy place. With his permission, I've added a comment by Mike Madden that he originally sent me by e-mail.
- The QuarkNet Data Portfolio. If you see an activity in the Data Portfolio that you've done, add a comment to the page for that activity to say how it might help with IB Physics and how effective it was in class. I've added a comment to TOTEM Data Express as an example; mine is a little long but yours does not have to be.
To add a Comment in the QuarkNet website, you must be logged in. If you are not sure how to do this or have trouble, contact Ken Cecire.
