4. Physics Principles & Rules of Thumb
- Opposite-Sign, Same-Flavor (OS-SF) Rule: Neutral particles (NP, e.g. Z) decay into OS-SF pairs (e+e- or mu+mu-). Mixed flavor pairs like e+mu- cannot form an NP.
- Higgs 2-Pair Rule: A Higgs candidate (H → ZZ* → 4e) is composed of two OS-SF pairs: 4e = (e+e-)(e+e-), 4mu = (mu+mu-)(mu+mu-), or 2e2mu = (e+e-)(mu+mu-).
- Automatic pT Sorting & Background Filtering: The app ranks all tracks by pT. If a pair of OS-SF leptons has pT much above the others, the lower pT tracks are treated as soft background/pileup.
- MET Threshold: MET above 25 GeV indicates an invisible neutrino (e.g. W → e nu).
- CIMA Constraint: Select exactly 1 primary process per event.
