Mentor Update on Summer Workshops 2020
May 21, 2020
Hello mentors,
We at QuarkNet hope that you all are doing well during these uncertain times. We know that planning for summer activities at your center has been difficult this year. With that in mind, QuarkNet offers some flexible options for this coming summer.
- If a face-to-face meeting becomes possible at your center later this summer, we may be able to send a staff member or fellow to facilitate one of our national workshops at your center. It is also possible to extend your award to allow you to meet during the 2020-2021 academic year.
- If you are not able to meet face-to-face, you may consider a virtual workshop. The QuarkNet staff is here to support you should you choose to go this route. We are currently working to create virtual workshops that QuarkNet staff or fellows can facilitate for your center. We will make some example templates and information on best practices available by the first week of June. You can certainly feel free to work with your lead teachers and/or QuarkNet staff to provide your own virtual workshop as well.
- We understand that some of you may decide not to meet this summer at all, and that is perfectly OK. If you decide not to meet, we will still consider your center to be active, and encourage you and your teachers to continue to participate in various QuarkNet activities that are offered throughout the year: World Wide Data Day, International Muon Week, Masterclasses, etc.
Please let us know if you have other ideas as well. We know that you will pursue the course that you think is best for your center. QuarkNet staff and fellows will do our best to support your efforts and accommodate your needs. Your efforts are much appreciated, and we thank you for all that you do.
For the staff,
Shane
