This past year, the Purdue QuarkNet Center has been working on rebuilding. September 2022, we started with an afterschool mini-virtual workshop, “What is QuarkNet.” The next event was a World Wide Data Day workshop on a Saturday in October.

Annual Report 2023 - Vanderbilt University

Synopsis of the years activities and QuarkNet personnel, mostly this is the maintaining and lending of Cosmic Ray Muon Detectors to teachers and the week-long workshop in the summer. This year the workshop was the week of 19-23 June 2023 and in-person.  The attendance was pretty modest (4 people) for the 5-day workshop.  Bill Gabella hosted the meetings at Vanderbilt's Department of Physics and Astronomy with help from Nick Spurlock (graduate student), Sara Frederick (post-doc), and Diana Gigante (retired teacher).  Our workshop theme was videos and physics---creating animations, making and analyzing videos, and creating "YouTube-style" videos.

Kansas State University QuarkNet Center, 2022-2023 Annual Report

The K-State group held a Master Class (and Master Class Orientation), and four CRMD Zoom sessions, and teachers went on a three-day summer trip, in the last fiscal year.

In addition, we are also coordinating a research project with QuarkNet Fellow Jim Deane that involves our dozen CRMD teachers working with their students to correlate muon rates with atmospheric temperature and pressure changes (available from NASA) as weather fronts move through Kansas and Arkansas. 

Notre Dame QuarkNet Center Annual Report 2023

The Notre Dame center had another busy year. We had a full schedule of our regular Monday afternoon  hybrid meetings which entailed preparation of a large number of initiatives. Jeremy Wegner and his students from Winamac Community High School participated in World Wide Data Day and International Cosmic Day in November 2022 and in a CMS masterclass at Notre Dame in March. Students from St. Joseph High School participated remotely. In February, Pat Mooney and Caroline Fletcher exhibited an e/m apparatus and a cloud chamber at Science Alive! in the St.
